Introduce Yourself!

Welcome to the Early Childhood Book Discussion Group hosted by BAEYC, Old Colony Chapter.  We will start the discussion here. Begin by posting to the "Introduce Yourself" prompt.  In your reply to this subject heading, briefly describe your background, current position, how long you've been in the field, and anything else you want us to know about yourself.

NOTE: To post comments: if you look at the bottom of this paragraph, you will notice the word "comments" with a number next to it.  If you click on that word, a comment box will open and you will see the comments other people have made.  You will also have the ability to comment yourself. In the bottom of the comment box is an option for "choosing your identity". If you click the Name/URL option and type your FULL name in the provided box (shows after you select), your name will show at the top of your comment so that you may receive credit for your post. If you do not, you will show up as "anonymous" and will need to contact Eileen at lestudante@bridgew.edu so that your name can be added.  You can also let her know if you publish something by mistake and need to have it taken off of the blog.  We strongly suggest that you compose your thoughts in a word processing program such as Microsoft Word, and then copy (not cut!) and paste them into the comment box.  This will ensure that if something were to go wrong within the blog comment box by accident, your work is not lost.  If you are unsure how to do this, then please contact Eileen for help.  Each new discussion thread will have its own title, listed on the right side of the screen.  Click on that title, and you can see a complete listing of all the posted comments to date on that discussion topic, in chronological order.  If you wish to view a previous years discussion to better understand what the blog will look like as the dicussion proceeds, please follow this link:  http://baeycbookgroup2010.blogspot.com/ .

Hello,
I think the book has a lot of valuable information and I am looking forward to the discussion. I started out my education when I enrolled in the Falmouth High School Child Development program as a sophomore and graduated with my certificate in ECE and started working with three and four year olds in 1980, when my son was three years old. I’ve worked at two schools during my career and continue my education today. The staff that I work with at The Sandpiper Nursery School has been together for the last twenty years. I have my own classroom of eight four year olds and I am with a mixed age group in the afternoon. Right now, I’m in the middle of fixing up an old house.

Hi. It was nice meeting everyone last night. I'm Susan Trisoline. I work part time at a home daycare in North Attleboro, MA. My schooling is in paralegal but since having children of my own, 3 boys; ages 8, 13 & 15, I have been able to stay home and raise them. Now that they are all in school full days; working at the daycare has been such a great opportunity for me as I can work and still be home for the boys afterschool. I am also on the Board of Directors at Jack & Jill Preschool in Attleboro, MA. I enjoy reading, spending time with family and having coffee with my friends every Friday morning. I look forward to reading everyone ideas on the topics we will be discussing.

Hello,

My name is Lisa Rogers. I have been taking care of children for many years, as my own children are 21, 18, 15, and 12 years old. I had worked in a totally different field for over 20 years. I started thinking of becoming a preschool teacher when my oldest child started preschool. It took me many more years before I decided the time was right for a career change. When my youngest child went to first grade, I went back to college. I graduated and I have been working at Pond Lot Preschool in Dighton for the past three years. I am a lead teacher in the 3 year old classroom, and I truly love it! I can't imagine doing anything else.
I love to read and have been enjoying this book. I look forward to discussing the questions with all of you.

Hi,
My name is Rosemary Murphy and I am the co-lead preschool teacher at Maples Little Angels at Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham. I have been at MLA for 13 years. I teach a mixed age group of 3-5 year olds and also spend several hours a week in the Infant-Toddler Room. Working at MRNC gives me the opportunity to combine two of my passions-working with the elderly and young children which I am able to do through MRNC's Intergenerational Program.

I, too, am a BSU graduate (1975) with a Bachelor's in Elementary Ed. and have taken several graduate course in ECE at Wheelock College.

I have lived in Bridgewater for 32 years and share my home with my two adult sons.

I enjoy reading, photography, get togethers with family and friends, and hiking with my 9 year old godson.

I have enjoyed reading Mind in the Making. It puts the research and teaching strategies in an easy to read format. I am looking forward to sharing your thoughts and ideas presented in the book.

Hi,

My most important roles in life are wife and mother. My husband and I have been married for 19 years, our daughter is 16 and our son is 14.

I started my Family Child Care in North Attleboro when my daughter was only 6 weeks old and have been doing it ever since. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to stay home with my children and raise them as well as run a successful business at the same time.

I love that with Family Child Care the numbers are low and you really get to know the children and their families. I feel like I have become a part of everyone's family and they all have become a part of mine.

Some of my other experiences with children include working with toddlers in a center, and school age kids both in after school programs and summer camp porgrams. I have had 2 live in Nanny positions. I also have an AA in Early Childhood Education from CCRI.

I have been enjoying the book and look forward to putitng some of the ideas into practice in my FCC as well as with my own children, it's never to late to learn.

Hi everyone!
Sorry I'm late with my introduction, but after a crazy week, I am excited to begin this discussion. I hold a BA in English from Assumption College and a M.Ed in Early Childhood Education from Bridgewater State University. Before joining the BSU Children's Center, I worked at Lasell College in Newton as a transitional kindergarten teacher and at Peabody Terrace Children's Center, a Harvard University affiliated program as a preschool teacher and team coordinator for six years. I also ran my own family child care business when my daughters were small (they are now 14 and 17). I look forward to engaging in a lively discussion with all of you.

Hello everyone,
Sorry to be so late to post but I'm Sue Mello and was glad to be at the first meeting. I look forward to the exchange of ideas and information these dicussions provide.

I've been an early childhood educator and administrator for 16 years. Prior to that I did something totally different. I was older when I decided to change directions and I'm so glad I did! I really love working in this setting and the longer I do so, I find I have more questions and much more to learn.

I am currently the director of Noah's Ark Child Care in Fall River. We've been in operation since 1995 and serve infants through prekindergarten. I've been a prek, kindergarten and preschool teacher and loved every age group. While I really enjoy what I do, I miss bein in the classroom as well. I look forward to our discussions and our next face-to-face meeting!
